About Bookus

A personal notebook that feels like a book.

Travel journals, parenting notes, everyday photos, short memos — Bookus brings what was scattered into one volume. Pages from your gallery or document scan, reading that feels like turning pages, and content that stays on your device by default.

Who Bookus is for

Bookus is for people who want a volume, not another infinite camera roll. Travelers who come home with hundreds of photos and a few half-written notes. Parents who keep growth moments, school notices, and short reflections in the same place. Students and makers who prefer page-by-page reading over a chronological feed. If you have ever wished a folder of images felt like a book you could flip through — with optional text pulled from scans — Bookus is aimed at that habit.

It is less ideal if you need multi-device cloud sync as the core product, collaborative editing with a team, or a full desktop publishing layout. Bookus keeps books, photos, and PIN protection on your phone or tablet by default. That is a deliberate trade: privacy and simplicity first, shared cloud later if at all.

First-book workflow

Start with a clear theme — one trip, one school year, one project week — so the book has an edge. Create a new book, then choose how pages arrive. Gallery import is fastest when photos are already curated: pick the shots that tell the story, not every burst frame. Document scan is better for paper: receipts, handwritten notes, worksheets, tickets. Point the camera, capture a clean page, and let OCR extract text you can keep with the image when that helps later searching or reading aloud.

Order pages the way you would in a real scrapbook: opening shot, a few mid-story spreads, a quiet closing image. Add short captions where a photo alone is ambiguous. When the draft feels complete enough to protect, set a PIN so text and layout stay encrypted on-device. You can still read with page-flip immersion, and use TTS on hidden text when you want hands-free review. Export when you need a shareable copy; everyday reading stays local.

When Bookus beats photo albums and notes apps

Camera albums are great at storage and terrible at narrative. Notes apps are great at text and weak at feeling like a finished object. Bookus sits between them: pages have sequence, photos and OCR text can live together, and reading mode rewards finishing a short volume instead of doom-scrolling a gallery. PIN lock is for personal books you do not want casually opened on a shared tablet — not for enterprise document management, but enough for a private journal on a family phone.

Use one book per theme rather than one giant catch-all. A thin travel book you reopen years later is more valuable than a thousand unsorted pages you never open. Revisit older books the way you would pull a photo album off a shelf: short sessions, page by page, without the pressure of “inbox zero.”

Platforms, honestly

Bookus ships today on iOS and Android. A dedicated website is planned later; until then, the phone and tablet apps are the real product. Download from the App Store or Google Play using the links on this page.

FAQ

Common questions

Where is my data stored?

Books, photos, and PIN stay on your device by default — no account required.

Is there a website?

Bookus is available on iOS and Android today. A website is coming later.

Does it support scan and OCR?

Yes — import from your gallery or scan documents, then extract text automatically.

Gallery or scan — which should I use?

Use the gallery when photos are already on the phone. Use document scan for paper — notes, tickets, worksheets — especially when you want OCR text with the page.

What does PIN lock protect?

Optional PIN encryption covers text and layout on-device so casual openers cannot read the book. Keep a backup export if you might forget the PIN.
